While showing some colleagues around Helsinki, I noticed a new development at the Bridge of Love (a pedestrian and bicycle bridge connecting Katajanokka to Aleksanterinkatu) – while the tradition is for couples to (legally) attach a padlock to the bridge as a sign of their love, someone has now tied a massive bunch of keys to the bridge instead!

A massive collection of keys attached to the Love Bridge (on the city-side of the Uspenski Cathedral)

After a recent controversial artwork (made from love locks stolen from a bridge in Turku – see the article from the Helsingin Sanomat), I can’t help wondering if this is another little art installation? Is this a more moderate piece by the One Love art collective (who were surprised that people objected to their love locks being melted down to form a sculpture), or just someone having a bit of fun? At the very least it is an interesting surprise!
