Along the rather busy Helsinginkatu (Helsinki Street) a lovely surprise is the leafy Tauno Palo park. The park is a memorial to Tauno Palo, a famous Finnish film and stage actor. A small waterfall and a very simple sculpture (two blocks of granite) are interesting features here – but what struck me most strongly was the contrast between the lush vegetation and sense of peace inside the park, and the bustling roads that surround it.

To see what the park looks like in winter, check out the photo at Taivasalla.

The tall trees that give Tauno Palo park its afternoon shade, with the sculpture by Kain Tapper in memory of Tauno Palo in the foreground.
