On Sunday evening Brigitte and I had a very pleasant surprise… we thought we were hearing a noisy motorbike outside, but when we popped our heads out of our lounge window we were rewarded with a spectacular fireworks display!

Linnanmäki (“linna” = castle, “mäki” = hill; their Wikipedia page has more information in English) is Finland’s most popular amusement park – I remember reading somewhere that it is the most visited attraction in Helsinki, drawing more than 1 million visitors annually (remember that only 5 million people live in Finland). And since Linnanmäki is just up the road from where we live in Kallio…  when they had the grand finale to their annual “Carnival of Lights”, we could watch from our apartment.

The fireworks were excellent (maybe a bit better than the fireworks competition we watched at Hietaniemi?), and I think than next year I’ll try to watch them from even closer.
